How to Store your Device?
This document concerns the packed device and its storage requirements, which are in accordance with the guidelines for the Versatile Manufacturing and Logic Centers and Customer Warehouse and Jobs Sites storage. Rigging accessories in this document are out of scope.
Versatile Inc. complies with IEC 62435-4:2018 © IEC 2018 Part 4 “ELECTRONIC COMPONENTS – LONG-TERM STORAGE OF ELECTRONIC SEMICONDUCTOR DEVICES” requirements and manufactures SPECs / MSDS requirements.
This document refers to the long-term storage (LTS) and short-term storage (STS) of electronic and chemical goods and draws on the current best long-term storage practices. LTS is any device storage that may last more than six months for products scheduled for long-duration storage.
Versatile INC complies with military-grade standards, including its containers. All new devices are shipped from the Versatile Manufacturing Center (VMC) directly to the customer and are in their originally designed and manufactured cases, where the primary purpose of the cases is to assure the safety of the operators and the device (its mechanics and electronics) along the shipment and the storage periods.
The third-party originally designed and manufactured (ODM) components are stored and assembled in alignment with third-party suppliers and their requirements (for example, printed circuit boards (PCB) and batteries).
From the engineering perspective, the container is designed to assure protection from high humidity, physical impacts, water drops, temperature, and tilting, as it was tested in the labs.
Customers must store and handle the device in its original package throughout its lifecycle until it is returned to the original supplier (Versatile INC). Otherwise, the customer has to contact the Versatile Support Center (VSC) for clarification).
Safety Requirements
Versatile recommends using lifting equipment available on-site or in customers’ warehouses and avoiding human handling, if applicable. If human involvement is required, always ensure that two persons are involved.
Additionally, always use the security lock any time you store the device.
🔺 Device transportation and handling is allowed only in its original box to assure required level of safety to crew and the device.
Environmental Requirements
Versatile INC comments on all environmental aspects, so containers are reusable. Customers must keep the containers during the contract agreement period while operating the device in a safe storage area (warehouse, job site containers, office, covered area, etc.) as long as they are visibly inspected and show no damage.
Short-Term Storage (STS)
Short-term storage refers here and is usually related to storage on the job site or in the customers' warehouse.
STS_Storage Environment
The device’s storage is accepted and might be equal to any available equipment storage the construction job site has. Versatile recommends, but is not mandatory, keeping the container in a covered area to avoid direct exposure to sun and rain to increase the container’s cycle. For example, precast, storage containers, offices, and operational areas.
Batteries should be installed on the device, in the storage area, as recommended but not mandatory, within a range of temperatures specified as below 0 ~ 23°C (32 ~ 73.4°F), low humidity (below 65%), no dust and no corrosive gas atmosphere. Also, batteries should be charged at least 30% of capacity.
STS_Storage identification - traceability
As long as the device is stored on the job site and Versatile keeps the records, there is no need to take any action regarding identification and traceability.
If the device is planned to be reallocated to other job sites and stored long-term, the customer must follow the LTS_Storage Identification—Traceability section requirements.
STS_Periodic Inspection
The device will be inspected and tested per “User Manual and Operational Instructions [Ver 4.6.3, EN]” procedure
Batteries will be tested for potential leakage and rust.
Any evidence requires immediate contact with the Versatile Support Center (VSC) team by mail at versatile@support.it with the subject “Customer Storage Inspection—Device Issue Found.”
STS_Periodic Maintenance / Upgrades
There is no requirement to perform maintenance along LTS, only if issues are found during the periodic inspection.
Proactively and only per need, Versatile Support Center specialists might contact customer representatives directly and with preliminary alignment for maintenance needs such as SW upgrades, calibrations, end-of-life parts replacement, etc.
STS_Post Storage Qualification
Once the decision is to retrieve the device from the storage and ship to new sites or install on the crane, full guardian test is required. Please contact Versatile Support team support@versatile.ai for the qualification test guidelines.
Long-Term Storage (LTS)
LTS_Storage Environment
In long-term storage, the quality of the device may be affected by varying weather conditions. To ensure the retention of the device’s quality, it’d be helpful to store the device in a dry area, with the best effort in room temperature, with no direct exposure to rain, sun, and heavy dust to avoid damage to the container.
Storage environment:
- Thermal - has to be maintained with a temperature equal to -40±2°C.
- Vibration - shall be a sinusoidal waveform with no more than 200 Hz.
- Shock - Shall be subjected to a half-sine shock of pack acceleration of 150 g, and pulse duration of 6 milliseconds.
For LTS, do not place the device on bare ground or in a wet area. This ensures the device doesn’t absorb moisture for a long time, which might affect the quality of cables and components such as the electronic box, batteries, load cells, antennae, lenses, and labels.
LTS_Storage Identification - Traceability
Storage of manufacturing data, unit-level traceability, and various other data that is recorded during storage should be maintained, archived, and reported to Versatile INC (recommended to send a mail to the account manager if the device is to be planned storage under LTS protocol and should include:
- the component manufacturer's name, part number, and serial number;
- the date of storage started
- the location - address
- the focal point details - name, email, phone
- nature of the inspection
LTS_Periodic Inspection
The inspection is required after the period in the table below. As the table below describes, the following data should be recorded and compared to the previous checks: date, nature of the checks, components tested, and results.
Versatile Support Center or Versatile Manufacturing Center is required to open the ticket for each inspection on the board.
